// FILE_01 — CONDITION RANKS

The Rank System

These relics are decades old. Calling them "mint" would be a lie, so we don't. Instead, every copy is slotted into one of five ranks based on how it actually looks in hand. Pick the rank that fits how you'll use it: on the shelf, in the console, or both.

Every rank is tested and plays. Rank describes the outside, never whether it works.

S — PRESERVED

The best surviving examples. Shelf centerpiece quality.

  • Label bright, complete, and free of tears, writing, or stickers
  • Shell clean with no cracks, chips, or noticeable scuffs
  • No sun fading or discoloration
  • As close to how it left the factory as decades allow

A — DISPLAYED

Displays beautifully. Light signs of age only up close.

  • Label intact with only minor edge wear
  • Light surface scuffs on the shell
  • No chips, cracks, or label damage
  • Looks great lined up on a shelf

B — HANDLED

Clearly loved, still presents well.

  • Visible label wear, small scratches or light fading
  • Shell scuffs; a small chip only seen on close inspection
  • No tears through the label artwork
  • A strong player copy that still looks good

C — PLAYED

Bought to be played. Wear is obvious.

  • Noticeable label wear, small tears, writing, or residue
  • Obvious shell scuffs or chips
  • Fading or discoloration
  • The most affordable way to play the game on real hardware

D — DAMAGED

Heavy damage, fully functional.

  • Major label loss or a missing label
  • Cracked or broken shell
  • Still tested and working
  • For players who only care about the game itself
